Harrison Sand Castle Competition

Harrison Sand Castle Competition is a extreme sand castle competition held every year at Harrison Hot springs in British Columbia. I know this isn’t really an optical illusion but I just got back from a Dragon Boating festival there and they had these spectacular sand sculptures. I could not help but to post them 🙂 I was wondering how heck they get these things to stay and not crumble away, but according to one of the guys at the entrance its just sand and water that has been tampered down and compacted. Has anyone ever been to Harrison and seen these extreme sand sculptures in person? They really are an amazing sight!

Psychological Optical Illusion

Psychological Optical Illusion is a neat optical illusion, that will be seen differently by different cultures.  The perception of the scene in the photo is largely determined by your culture and what part of the world you live in.

Psychological Optical Illusion

So what did you see happening in the above picture? Tests were done with similar picture in Africa, the majority of the participants saw a family sitting on the ground by a tree and a girl balancing a box on her head.  On the other hand Western cultures placed the family indoors and the post behind the man the corner of the room and the box above the girls head a window with some vegetation outside. Im assuming that most of our readers will see the second half considering we are all modern enough to be on a computer!  Let me know what you guys saw.

The House That Swift Built Optical Illusion

The House That Swift Built Optical Illusion is one of those three dimensional 2D pictures sent in by Jen S. This picture is real neat in the fact that your mind is all over the place trying to figure out how it all works. Are those stairs going up or down? These types of illusions are generaly inspired off some of the works of MC Eschers Works. Such as Escher’s Belvedere, Escher’s Ascending Descending stairs or the famous Waterfall Optical Illusion. So with all these mind games can you get a good grasp on the reality that exists in this picture!

The House that Swift built Optical Illusion - this is one place you can defiantly get lost!

Drowned Kid Optical Illusion

Drowned Kid Optical Illusion is an advertisement thats sends a the message of how important it is to watch your kids in the water. In a way its kind of a creepy advertisement with a very realistic look, I wouldn’t not doubt that a lot have people have jumped at the sight of it. I think the little baby in the picture is even a little disturbed. The moral of this story is to watch your kids around the water.  Scary Optical Illusions like this can be a bit creepy but defiantly make you stop to take a second look!

Scary Optical Illusion of a drowned kid send a shocking but true message.

3D Concave Monkey Optical Illusion

3D Concave Monkey Optical Illusion is a an illusion shot by mrettig.  This is a classic example of the Hollow Face Optical Illusion. Due to the back lit lighting this monkeys face appears to be 3D and popping out at you. In fact it is actually a convex shape, and the photo is taken looking into the back of the mask where your face would normally go. For a demonstration of exactly how this illusions works check out the Hollow Face Video Optical Illusion.

Floating Boat Optical Illusion

Floating Boat Optical Illusion is a very cool picture. The boat appears to be floating in thin air! Im sure we have all seen hover crafts but they generally ride on very small cousin of air and this little row boat sure inst packing a giant fan underneath! The trick here is the shadow, which is normally how you tell how far off the ground it is..  IS the shadow on top or underwater? Well on the topic of the sea be sure to check out this incredible Underwater Sculpture Park.

Valencia’s Perfect Reflection Optical Illusion

The Valencia’s Perfect Reflection Optical Illusion was one i stumbled across and just had to post, this stunning picture taken by Optical Illusion on flickr.  Santiago Calatrava’s ‘Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias’ Is the building featured in this picture, the photo was taken with the water still as glass giving it a near perfect reflection.  It almost looks like a big eyeball looking out over the water.
